One of the ancient cities of India, Ayodhya is included in Ayodhya, Mathura, Maya (Haridwar), Kashi, Kanchi, Avantika (Ujjayini) and Dwarka in holy mythology in Hindu mythological history. Ayodhya has been described as the city of God in Atharvaveda and its richness has been compared to heaven.

According to Buddhist beliefs, Buddha had lived in Ayodhya or Saket for 16 years.

The city of Ayodhya is very special for Hinduism but besides this, the relics of Buddhism, Jainism and Islam are also found here. It is believed that five Tirthankaras of Jainism were born in Ayodhya, the birth of Rishabh, the first Tirthankar was also here.
