>Dev Deepawali in Varanasi, Varanasi Festivals in India

According to the Hindu calendar, the month of Kartik is considered to be auspicious and fruitful. Charity, virtue, Ganga baths and festivals have special significance in the month of Kartik. There are many festivals from Sharad Purnima to Kartik Purnima, in which the last festival is celebrated on the occasion of Diwali Kartik Purnima. Dev Diwali is celebrated after 15 days of Deepawali. This celebration of Goddess Diwali is celebrated in a grand manner in Banaras town of Uttar Pradesh. There are many reasons behind celebrating Dev devali in Banaras so beautifully.

Why is it celebrated only in Benaras ?

  • According to legendary belief, Lord Vishnu awakens after 4 months of sleep on Devuthani Ekadashi a few days before Kartik Purnima. In whose happiness all the gods descend from heaven and celebrate the lamps on the ghats of Benares.

  • There is another belief that Mother Laxmi awakens before Lord Lord Vishnu on Deepawali, so on the 15th day of Deepawali, Deepavali is celebrated on the day of Kartik Purnima.

  • According to the second conviction, tripurasur was the epic of the monster in all the three places. Then Lord Shiva reached Kashi on the day of Kartik Purnima and slaughtered the Tripurasur monster and gave freedom to all of his atrocities. Pleased with this, all the Gods celebrated the festival of light by lighting a lamp in heaven.

  • The tradition of Dev Diwali was first made in 1915 on the Panchaganga Ghat of Banaras in a number of thousands of burnt flames. In that case, lamps are decorated in a grand manner in Banaras.

  • This celebration of Benaras started with the efforts of some enthusiasts nearly three decades ago. A social activist named Narayan Guru, started a group of youth by introducing some ghats, and gradually spreading it to the other ghats, almost a decade ago, has come in such a grand form.

  • On the day of Kartik Purnima, dev devali is celebrated in such a gorgeous way to dedicate the martyrs to Kashi.
