Lumbini is 20 miles from Nautanwon Station of the Gorakhpur-Nautanvana line of the North-Eastern Railway and 10 miles from the Nagarh station of the Gorakhpur-Gonda line in Nepal. There is also a surest way to reach Nauagarh from here. This is a very special place for Buddhism because here Gautam Buddha was born.

History of Lumbini :

Gautam Buddha was born in 563 BC In Lumbini village near Kapilavastu It is believed that emperor Ashok would also come here. Here Ashoka also constructed a wall and pillar. It was a full-fledged vihar in ancient times, but now it has been destroyed. Only a column of Emperor Ashoka is in existence, which is inscribed - 'Lord Buddha was born here.' Apart from this pillar there is also a Tomb Stupa, in which there is a Buddha statue.
Lumbini has also been described by Chinese traveler Fahian and Yuvanwvang. It is believed that after the attacks of the Hunas this place was lost in the darkness of oblivion. This place was Varansied in the year 1866 AD. Since then, this place has been recognized as a sacred place in the Buddhist world.
