Chandra Prabha Wildlife Sanctuary, spread over an area of 9,600 hectares, in the Vindhya forest range, Vijaygarh and Naugarh on two hills in Chandauli, Uttar Pradesh. This century was established in May, 1957 and in 1958 three Asian lions were brought here. These three lions were 11 till 1969. Unfortunately, in 1970 all of them disappeared.
Chandra Prabhu Wildlife Sanctuary is home to many other species of wild animals. Among them, Chital, Nilgai, Chinkara, Blackbucks, Rabbits, Sambhar, Chausingha, Monkey, Sahee, Hyena, Wild Fox, Indian Gazelle, Wild Cat and Wild Pig etc. are the main ones. This place is a paradise for people who love to look after birds and the ornithologist. About 150 species of birds have habitat here. In addition to many wild medicinal plants in this sanctuary, teak, amalatas, mahua, koriyaya, ber, tendu trees are also in abundance.
Chandra Prabha and Kamensa river flows in the sanctuary, which also shows the fish floating in water. During the winter and rain there are quite a lot of tourists, in this period, the green atmosphere in the center attracts the heart.

Wildlife found in Chandra Prabha :

Tiger (now extinct), cheetah, leopard, black antelope (black deer), chital, sambhar, wild boar, neel cow, wolf, jackal, rabbit, monkey, langur, gharial, dragon etc.

Chandra Prabha Dam :

This waterfall is surrounded by natural forests and is a much visited tourist spot. The Chandra Prabha Dam, built by the Irrigation Department not only feeds the Devdari Waterfall, but is in itself a major tourist attraction.

Devdari Waterfall :

This is an off-shoot of the Rajdari Waterfall and is best visited for its scenic beauty.

Best Time to Visit :

July to February is the best time to visit the sanctuary. The waterfalls during the rainy seasons are in full force and present a memorable sight for visitors.

How to reach :

Chandraprabha Wild Life Sanctuary can be accessed by Road and Rail. Nearest railway station is Varanasi junction, 70 kms away and Mugalsarai junction 50 kms away from chandauli. It is well connected with Varanasi by road. Distance from Varanasi is 70 kms. Airport - Nearest air port is Babatpur (Varanasi), 90 kms away from Chandauli.
