Buddha Purnima is a special festival of the Buddhist community, which is celebrated every year by Buddha Jayanti Vaishak Purnima. It is said that Lord Gautama Buddha had attained liberation on this day. Buddha Purnima is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha and also as his Nirvana Divas. Lord Buddha was born in Lumbini in the house of King Shrouodhan, 563 BC, Ikshwaku dynasty Kshatriya Shakya Kul. His mother's name was Mahamaya which was from the Koli dynasty. It is said that his mother died just seven days after giving birth to Gautam Buddha, after which he was adopted by Mahaprajapati Gautami, an aunt of Buddha. It is believed that during the birth ceremony of Lord Buddha, the sadh seer had declared from his mountain residence that this child would be either a great king or a great holy pilgrim. This child was named Siddhartha. It is said that Siddhartha was of great kindness from childhood, he could neither hurt anyone nor anyone could see sad. Buddha is the ninth incarnation of Vishnu for Hindu devotees. Therefore, this day is also considered holy for Hindus. This festival is celebrated in India, China, Nepal, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, Cambodia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Indonesia, Pakistan and many countries of the world. It is known that most of the monuments associated with Buddhism have spread across India and Nepal, where people of the world come to visit every year.

When Lord Buddha came to know about the violence, sin and death in his life, he renounced the temptation and relieved his family life and went out in search of truth of life. For many years, under Bodh Gaya, under the auspices of the Bodhisatta, when they attained the knowledge, this day became a special day for the whole creation which is known as Vaishakha Purnima or Buddha Purnima.
