Man Mandir Ghat is located adjacent to the famous Das-Ashwamedh Ghat and is accessible by walk over stairs from Das-Ashwamedh Ghat or from Godoulia. Man Mandir Ghat is known for the Man Singh palace and the Sun Dial located at this place. It was built by Raja Savai Mana Singh (Maharaja of Jaipur) and now maintained nicely by Archeaological Survey of India. The observatory is famous as a masonry observatory. The astronomical observatory consists of many major geometric devices for measuring time, preparing the lunar and solar calendar and, for observing the positions of stars, planets and other heavenly bodies. On the top of the floor of the palace is a Observatory (Sun Dials) built by Savi Ji Singh. This is one of the 5 places in india that has such observatories. The other ones are at Jaipur, Delhi, Mathura and Ujjain. The best part is the crescent view of all the ghats of varanasi from the terrace of this building. This is the spot from which most of the promotional photos and videos of varanasi are being shot.. Not to be missed!
